nEU-Med day in Maremma: a first report

On october 31st the first nEU-Med day in Maremma took place.

It was an event of great importance for the project, aimed at presenting to the public the data collected in the first three years of research. Unfortunately the bad weather did not allow the visit to the site of Vetricella scheduled in the morning programme, but this did not prevent the continuation of other activities that took place in the municipal building of Scarlino, in whose territory the key excavation of the project is located.

Among these, the research tables (Fig.1) were of great success with significant public attendance, these consisting in six stands at which by way of videos, photographs and different types of finds (from ceramics to the natural sediment cores) the young researches of the interdisciplinary team met the public and had the chance to illustrate their researches and the different methodologies applied in the project (Fig. Gallery).

The relevance of the nEU-Med project in the research context of the Università di Siena and in the wider European panorama as well as the strong commitment of the research team to rielaborate the results acquired in the project for future public fruition, justifies the important presence, in this initiative, of the President of the Università di Siena prof. Francesco Frati (Fig.5) , who in his speech, recalled the importance of combining research with strategies for the development of the territory, a central theme of the so-called “third mission” of the University institutions.
