new developments in the inventory of the Tuscan numismatic finds

The inventory of  Tuscan numismatic finds in the ERC nEU-Med projects is still ongoing. The work will be integrated with the finds from the central Tyrrenian area, providing a useful tool for the development of comparative frameworks and summeries on certain aspects of medieval monetary economy and circulation in Tuscany and the coastal region.

The database will ultimately provide a useful tool for researchers both in the field of archaeology and numismatics for the contextualization of nuismatic finds within the archaeological record, as well as offering the means to consult the registered data. The latter will provide the means towards a better understanding of the times and forms of economic growth in the Mediterranean area between the 7th and 12th centuries.

Now the inventory is focusing on edited material, specifically numismatic and archaeological monographs. The two repertories of finds elaborated by E. A. Arslan for the Early Middle Ages and L. Gianazza for the Early and Late Middle Ages, integrated and enriched by further researches by way of the bibliography cited by the authors, were of fundamental importance as a starting point, especially for the Tuscan area.

Furthermore, archaeological and numismatic periodicals have also been recorded. These include:

An extensive ongoing research is also being conducted on the works by authors who have compiled syntetic monographies related to the Tuscan provinces (A. Saccocci, G. Ciampoltrini, M. Baldassarri, F. M. Vanni).
